This webinar featured professionals from the Federal Ministry of Environment (FMEnv), Nigeria; IEMA and Netherlands Commission for Environmental Assessment (NCEA). NCEA also shared their experiences from their ongoing EIA harmonization project commissioned by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The International Association for Impact Assessment’s 2021 report The State of Digital Impact Assessment Practice has shown that the application of digital approaches and technology in Environmental Impact Assessment is gaining momentum globally within government and private sector practitioners. The report has also shown that digitization is enhancing data capture, management and reporting of impacts/mitigation to stakeholders. In Nigeria, EIA practitioners are already applying digital based technology for data collection via drones and remote sensing. However, there are other underutilized potentials and expertise that need to be harnessed to bridge the digitization knowledge / skill gap between the current and next generation of EIA practitioners in Nigeria. The webinar will highlight the potential benefits, opportunities and challenges for digital EIA in Nigeria.
