Our Yorkshire & Humberside webinar Director of Policy and External Affairs at IEMA Martin Baxter reviewed the key changes and implications of the Environment Bill for local authorities, consultants and professionals working in business and how this will impact local areas. The Environment Bill sets out a new environmental governance framework as the UK leaves the European Union’s environmental policy and legislative structures. The Bill is substantial and when Royal Assent is granted, it will set in law significant new governance structures for managing and improving the environment, including the introduction of a new public body acting as an independent watchdog, together with more specific measures on waste and resources, air quality, water and nature and biodiversity. In part, the proposals seek to fill the governance gap as the UK leaves the EU, however; measures are also included to tackle significant environmental challenges including the plastics crisis, biodiversity loss and air pollution. This session is ideal for anyone within the profession as it provided oversight of one of the key changes to environmental legislation in recent years.
